Overview & History
Puerto Calero was the brainchild of developer
José Calero; an exclusive retreat to provide a luxury marina,
residential development and golf course for the island of Lanzarote.
In 1983 the company Puerto Calero SA was formed and the dream
started to become reality. Construction of the Marina
began in 1986, which also saw the first set of luxury villas
built. The planned 200 berths came into operation in
1989. Initial success led to a decision in 1997 to
double its capacity. It took only two years for the work to be
completed - with 420 Berths for boats of between 8 and
75m. During this time development had continued on the
infrastructure, with shops, apartments and offices being
Today Puerto Calero is a bustling marina and
holiday destination, mature trees provide great shade and a
wonderful ambiance to the main plaza where you will find a
multitude of shops and restaurants.

There are no obstacles to overcome when approaching Puerto
Calero, however if hugging the coast on the southern end be
aware of a fish farm, in daylight it is clearly marked.
The approach is very straight-forward, with a minimum of
7m depth in the entry channel. The marina entrance faces
the SW and is identified by a tower light: Fl.(3)G.14s13m8M at
the end of the south breakwater and a port-side channel
marker (red can buoy – Fl.(2)R.8s3M), and a red light set into
the end of the dock wall (Fl.R.15s3m3M).
Call the harbor master on VHF Chanel 9, you will be asked your
length and beam size and advised as to where to go, professional
line handlers are also on hand to help you moor. Long keel
boats might find the tightly packed pontoons tricky, but there
are ample visitors berths where even the most 'piggish' of boats
can tie up.
